Overview on Site Links, please help

Hello, Please excuse me if I am posting an issue that is plainly clear, or has been asked somewhere else.
I just set up a site, and I am trying to figure out how to work with site links. My primary desire is to be able to set up download pages within different top level navigation links - IE
Site link - "2011 price pages" links to downloaded price list excels
Site link - "Marketing Documentation " goes to a download page of different types of marketing docs.
I guess I am trying to implement different top level download category types which I can assign to site links. Is this possible? I want my downloadable content to appear on different pages of the site
