Google have now updated the code for the +1 button: http://www.google.com/webmasters/+1/b...+1/button/.
N.B. the script needs to added after the button code so you should really use add_to_footer instead of add_to_head.
For older PF versions, you could just echo it after echo "<g:plusone></g:plusone>";
