I only run version v7.02.07 up until now and installed it via Softaculous, so I have no upgrade experience with Fusion. Will it be possible to upgrade v9 Stable via the admin area and how will that go?

It is in the readme, depending on how much data you have it can be very tricky tho. Make sure you have backup of your site and database if it fails.

In near future we will be using the upgrade.php in Administration, in longer term we plan on using remote upgrade as an other option.
