PHPFusion vs Joomla

I have used both and for sheer ease of use, a good support network and the mods/themes site nothing beats Fusion

I never could figure out how to use joomla.. Too complicated.
PHP Fusion is the most userfriendly CMS I've ever encountered..

on the CMSmatrix website, it looks as if joomla has bigger support for many smaller things than php-fusion (pt).

However, one small thing irks me about joomla, and it's the user system.
When adding a user, you can define him as one of several layers. All good, but what I'd need is a possibility to define what content the user should have access to.
Joomlas userlevels state that a higher access level still has access to the same things as lower level users...

Let's say that I have Article A and Article B on my site, and when user A logs in, he should see Article A, but NOT article B. And user B should see Art B, NOT art A.

How does this work in php-fusion?

Php-fusion is great. There is just one thing, that bothers me. Forum still needs ALOT of work. I'll try to integrate phpbb on my php-fusion portal.

I agree, fusion is very userfriendly while still giving people quite alot of freedom to make custom pages and special php solutions. I do agree that the forum is by far the biggest downside on fusion. Its very outdated compared to even the simplest of forums out there.

Another thing that bothers me from time to time is the usergroups, and especially how you assign Moderators to the forum (again forum) I would rather add permissions to parts of the website to the usergroup, instead of the usergroup to the parts.

But I still use fusion, because the rest is good. I have the freedom, the basic features and a very good community :)

You cant really use this, cause its updated in 2005, the newer version 305-306-307 etc. aint in the comparison, so I would say, php-fusion is better..

As a newbie in all of this i found php-fusion to be the best when it comes to both installing and "start support" wich is essential for me.

And the system has not failed me in my expectations!

And in the area of "getting your own look and feel for your site" php-fusion is a "rocket in the sky" :

Of course there are some "irritations" but i only use them for "learning" !

Have you tried PunBB then? They may have added some functionality since I lasted looked, but that forum system is barebones, albeit fast. But the same can be said of the forum integrated with Fusion.

Beyond that, which CMS out there has a better forum already integrated as part of the core? One could argue Xoops, Xaraya, or even e107 but I've also noticed that those have some quirks as well.

So I see Fusion as the best all-around CMS. Mods and Infusions are incredibly easy to write for Fusion. The fact that it comes with a forum that supplies all the essentials is just a bonus IMO. Ever seen the forum that comes with Drupal? **Blech**

Besides, what are you really looking for: a great CMS with a forum or a great forum? If the latter, look at SMF (free) or vBulletin (not free).

OR...you could go open to Open Beta and check out what they're doing with the Fusion forum. Looks promising IMHO.

If you go over to http://www.opensourcecms.com/ you can try out a standard install of php-fusion as well as a variety of other cms packages. The packages are always up to date which is good :) You get 2 hours to play about before they wipe it all and re-install it again.

Also I've tried a number of CMS and think php-fusion is the easiest to get started with. It's improving all the time, there are some good mods/infusions appearing and some of the themes coming out from php themes are awesome. B)

Ok, so here's a real scenario that I need.

On my site I'm going to have several downloads, but I'd like to limit the load, so only registered users (who I approve) should have access, or even see the "downloads" link.

Can I accomplish this with php-fusion?

Also, can I set that usergroup A has acces to downloads A, while usergroup B has access to downloads B, while not being able to reach eachothers downloads (this is an example, could be articles or forums or whatever)?

yes, create usergroup A and usergroup B.

Assign the view ability to those groups.

Super Administrators can see everything, period.

I've used both Mambo and Fusion extensively in the past year. At the moment, fusion is my perferred CMS. The administration is easier in fusion in my opinion. But both have ups and downs. i do find Mambo/Joomla to be heavier on server load as opposed to fusion.
