Mabye there already is a thread here about this,but i didn find it :P
Here we go:
Is it possible for registered users to apply for membership in a usegroup,and for an admin to approve the application?
I'm just thinking that this would be a really nice feature since im having quite a few different usergroups,and many forums.
Then i just could have the usergroup admins activate the applications...
