I am particularly interested with Articles and Custom Pages but expect the same question applies to all pages...

I've done a search of the forums and read the manual but may have missed what I am looking for?

Is there a place in the admin panel where you can
a) edit the title on a page - e.g. change the format - make the text larger, change colour etc?
b) hide the page title (I often create a title on custom pages myself) and don't want the automatic little one displayed as well.

I guess this can be done in themes but is there a way of doing it through the admin function
rather than having to edit a theme and ftp the results?

regards

HAPPY NEW YEAR wink

Ian

None of this can be done through the admin panel. All text layout is done through a theme. You have to set a title to every new news & article wen you write one through the admin panel. Maybe it would work to delete the title through PhpMyAdmin but i don't now how Pf would react to this when reading it back from the MySQL table.

Cheers for replying
I know it isn't "built in" - have requested that elsewhere.

But I was looking for hints on where to go to change the theme so it doesn't display the title when displaying a page
or
displaying it but changing it's font and size

I'd prefer to just not show it
so I can create a title as part of the content
because I often want a to set the title to something that helps the admin identify what the page is when editing the pages
and the name displayed to the public should be something different

ANY ideas and pointers welcome

This is a bit tricky and it depends on what skills you have to edit your PF files. It will require some work from your side.

In the theme folder you are using you have a styles.css file. Where it says ".capmain {….." you can edit the style of all your titles. Problem here is that this will also affect all titles in news, articles etc.
Another way to do this more precise would be to add another style to your themes styles.css that reflects the font style you want to add to your titles. After that you have to add data to the variable $data['page_content'] (contains the title of your page) in viewpage.php so that it also adds yore new style. This would change the appearance of your custom pages titles.
The same thing can be done by changing $data['article_subject'] in readarticle.php for changing the articles titles.

The easiest way to delete titles is to remove them from the database tables _articles and _custom_pages You can use PhpMyAdmin for this. I tried it and it works. This is the only way to have a mix of pages where you can choose to show a title or not.

I hope this will help you out for a start.

Thanks a lot

will have a play

Deleting from the database bit... if you remove the title from the databse won't this cause a problem editing them as they won't be listed or will be listed with blank names?

p.s. NICE FISH :)))

Yes that would be a problem because PF will ask you for a title before you can save your edits. Sorry but this is the only way to accomplish what you wanted in the current Pf version.

If you mean the SeoTag Mod it will display a Page title for every page in the browser window. This is a really cool mod but I don't think this will help neltek in his title editing for articles and custom pages. :)

You can use space as page title to show no page title. Will get a little hard to maintain the pages though if you make more of them.

Thanks
Thing is there will be a number of pages and sub pages and having no names to be able to identify them for editing will be a real pain for the users who edit content.

Looks like the template option is the way.

Would be nice to have the option in the editor.

Where in the php-fusion codeset is the bit that displays the title of a page (articles, custom pages etc.)

I'd like to turn it off then I can have the title built in to the article or custom page itself

Maybe an example of my issue ...

http://www.bbs-aupairsandnannies.co.u...page_id=26

The page is titled "For Parents - Nannies" which helps identify it for editing
but
we want the displayed title to be "For Parents who need a nanny"

As PHP_FUSION is at the moment it displays both...

I have looked at editing the css file in themes BUT
it messes up all titles
have a look at the home page of the above site...

if I edit the css style for "capmain"
it would change the news titles too

Can I request a change that allows the article, news item, custom page etc. to have another field that is the "displayed title" field different from the 'article'/'news item'/'custom page'/'contact us' name, (and allows it to be formatted or have more css items - one for each type of title - news/article/custom/photos/contact me)

cheers

Try this workaround for custom pages.

In viewpage.php find:

opentable($data['page_title']);

Replace with:

   // Split page title start
   list($page_title_name, $_page_title_display) = split('[/]', $data['page_title']);
   opentable($_page_title_display);
   // Split page title end

Now you then need to define all your page titles for custom pages in the custom pages admin on this format:

Whatever title for id/Title displayed

The / is used as separator.
