i tried searching but no one seems to have had this problem yet.
what i have done is made a new page with a form on.
1 textbox and 1 textarea.
the textarea name is pbody and the form name is addp.

all i want to do is put the displaysmileys function under my textarea.
i tried and it just wont work.
this is what i tried

<textarea name='pbody' class='textbox' style='width:295px;'  rows='10'>".$pbody."</textarea><br>
".displaysmileys("pbody")."

and it didnt work, it showed the smiley's but when you click one it doesnt put anything into the textbox.
