Ok so i know you can set a Usergroup to a moderator, but how do i change a users "user type" to moderator.
Its there in the forum ranks with its 5 stars but why can't i select members to be moderators as a user type not user group?

You have to add members to the Moderator user group, that's the only way.

Little Pointless putting moderator into forum ranks then =\
