Can anyone help me remove the Protean banner from the top of viewthread.php? I notice it's not showing on admin pages, so if anyone can direct me where to look, I can try to figure it out.

I'm sorry, I did not understand. I thought it was a separate banner!
You could have done in:
Administration> Settings> Theme Settings
so switch Protean theme by changing the theme.
