Hey there,

ever heard about "responsive webdesign"?
Responsive web design (RWD) is a web design approach aimed at crafting sites to provide an optimal viewing experience—easy reading and navigation with a minimum of resizing, panning, and scrolling—across a wide range of devices (from desktop computer monitors to mobile phones).
More infos HERE

Unfortunateley, PHPFusion is not ready for this new techniques.
We ported and offered an amount of responsive themes on GFDF.de, but all of them are just "semi-responsive" and without minor changes of many lines of core-codes it is impossible to let them be full responsive.

In matter of fact, php-fusion is still working with tables on wide parts of its installation - mostly defined as fixed width. It's not up to date to work with tables in general, we are about to work only with <div> and css since more than 2 or 3 years.

It would be great, if someone could recode the core of for example forum-layout or profile, just to let fusion make the next step to future. It would be also a great step to take that with you for future releases of php-fusion.

Best regards
Layzee

We are working on HTML5 and CSS3 for v8. Tables in the forum is the correct use of tables, the profile doesn't need to use tables. Hope this helps.

I agree with responsive design Layzee. I don't think you are correct on the table aspect. In fact, in my project I am working, I've made my tables responsive. Sure, it requires a little additional coding but it is worth while.

I've converted an already made theme into a responsive-er template.

Fusion definitely needs to go responsive to stay in the game. This was a downfall I had and was the reason I was thinking about looking elsewhere.

Well, that's what I was trying to say. To keep Fusion up to date and keep it to attract attention to new users it's one of the urgently needed things.
Also it needs to be easier to adept fusion to responsive themes or vice versa for themedesigners at all.

I agree. I think we need a stricter format for submitting templates along with a template engine. something simple and effective.

Fusion is pretty awesome now. Scratch the current license, rework some of the current design issues and polish the rest and we'd have a competitive cms.

I belive you have many valid points there.

If we use tables or divs here or there is not the question and it often boils down to personal preference´s.

From a optimized point of view, some claim that divs can be rendered faster than tables.

From a supportive point of view, tables have more tolerance than divs.

We definatly need to start to be aware of these things and work with % and relative positioning wheter we use divs or tables.
