Would it be acceptable if I removed the version number from the footer?

So, instead of "Powered by PHPFusion v6.01.11 © 2003-2005" on my site, it will say "Powered by PHPFusion © 2003-2005"

Because, I've heard of hackers searching for certain versions by looking for "Powered by PHPFusion v6.01.8 © 2003-2005" or another version with an vulnerability that could be exploited.

Yes, it is acceptable. If you keep the note that your site is powered by PHPFusion, you are respecting all the work of this project and also helping on it ;)

The theme designers are the ones putting the version number at the bottom. I would recommend removing it. For your referrence you can still view the version number in the admin panel.

Look into theme.php, find function render_footer section and there you can change it.

ok so i got this:
function render_footer($license=false) {

global $theme_width,$settings,$locale;

   echo "</tr>\n</table>
<table cellpadding='0' cellspacing='0' width='100%'><tr>
<td align='center' class='footer'>";
   if (!$license) { echo showcopyright()."<br><br>\n"; } echo showcounter()."<br><br><font size=1>Advertising and spammi

and what do i do to remove/modify it? the last line "Advertising..." was added by me long time ago to display below the copyright thingy.

OK, you must look into includes/theme_functions_include.php and there is a definition of the showcopyright function...

Official Response:

As long as you leave Powered by PHP Fusion in the footer your good to go! You are welcome to remove the version number as we dont even put it in the footer anymore!
