If you run a commercial site and are somehow dependant on site stats (unique visits) for the income, how the hell do you account for this when spambots could easily make up for 90% of these visits?

I never heard of the programmes which gives income on basis of visits...

I think that those services might also be keeping record of the spam visits etc... and they might keep those visits out of their records... maybe...

Well it would still be a unique visit, just not in scope with what you're wanting to view. You'd have to filter the data. Identify what you're looking at. If it's spam, then there can be rules put in place to filter that in or out of a report. To say unique visit, is just what it may be, based on the IP.

Maybe query the IP against the blacklist table and if present, then it can be omitted from report. That would then depend on how you define spam.

Adsense keeps records and attempts to ensure that all clicks are validated before payment.

Some publishers pushing content through adsense pay by the impression and the impression rate may show high, however on validating it should drop a lot.

I currently use Adsense and literally get over 5 GB of spambot bandwidth each month used and no results through commercial productivity have faltered.

Ah, so AdSense is that clever?

That is a relief.
