Update: So everything has gone extremely well! What we have done is setup a new area called PHPFusion IRC which is accessible at http://irc.php-fusion.co.uk. From there you can choose which applet you want to use. Few quick notes: Mibbit does not require you to edit or open any ports on your firewall and should work behind a corporate firewall where as PJIRC will require you to make sure you have port 6667 open.
We will be setting up some tutorials over the next little while on how to actually use an IRC client if you wish. Otherwise the web clients should be more than enough for you. Any questions let me know.

EDIT: Please note that people are not in the channel 24/7 the busiest hours are during the day UK time. If no-one is around, feel free to keep the chat open and chillax! People will eventually respond, we dont sit there and watch the channel 24/7 waiting for people to join.
