Hello, our website is working on v6... It's working well, but could be better. There are also some new panels from the spam generators, I don't know how to protect, never mind. This is why I'm trying to upgrade, but not only the reason...

So, actually I'm not really upgrading it, I will start new, clean installation of the v7. Then there is only a question. Can I somehow convert my v6 posts in news? We don't want it to lose it. I guess I can't keep the exactly same theme, never mind, I will do a new one, will try to remake it into old v6 look. But posts are the main thing, so...

What will happen if I will try to import my old database into new one? With IF NOT EXISTS commands etc.

Or also I've been thinking about try to upgrade v6 database into v7 by the upgrade script and only edit the theme.

Thanks, Mike.

You can upgrade the old site to v7 and make a database backup of the users table and the forum tables and import that into the new site.

Well, the old site is very modified manually, so I'm worrying about if something wouldn't upgrade wrong. I will better start new installation, import the old database and edit the theme again from zero point :).

depends on what is modified manually. files or database?
if your reply is files, you can upgrade and lose nothing at all, just the mod apported to files.

I know and did.
When I upgrade the database with the php script, rewrite all the files and then load the page, it will redirect me on the setup page. 1st time I filled it all etc... so it rewrited my updated database and made a new one ... doh. Next time I will delete setup.php and reupload old config, but I'm wondering what will be with the admin pass, which is new in v7, wasn't in v6, so I will probably set it up in admin somewhere? Or at the worst I will md5 hash the pass and insert it into the database manually.

you can do it even better...
with all your v6 files upload only upgrade.php on administration folder and execute the upgrade from admin panel, delete all old files, except for config.php, images from albums (if you have one) and avatars, forum attachments. Upload new php-fusion files.
thats all.
rebember that password are double md5 so in that way it wont work

Hehe, I am reading this too late. Never mind, I just did what I said. Made a copy of the same site, made also a copy of the same database, upgraded the database, uploaded new files, that's all. I kept all files v6, I mean I didn't delete anything, I only rewrited all new files from v7. That's all. Works, nice.

Now there I have to only remake some theme... I'm wondering if there is the theme called Azara for v7? Well, we remade it a lot, hmm, completely... but the basement is still Azara. Will take a look for it.

And yes, about the users. This is the real reason why I visited the forums now :). Is there anything you know about how to get all the passwords into double md5? If you don't know about anything, I guess will work if I make a simple script which will take the old password md5 value from the db and will hash it once again. Should be ok, not?

EDIT: The theme should be same layout scheme as this.

the update is succesfull? then you don't need to edit any password.
If it's not ok just retry as you have v6 file and database

After I choose admin, the person will create his own admin password after he logins? Or how does it work? Does admin pass has only the main admin? ...

Thanks for everything, GameAction. The upgrade and all the things around were successfully done. Here is the result. I'm still working on some things now and then.

But again, I have some next question. How can I increase max. characters in each post in the shoutbox? I mean, it allows me to type as many characters as I want, but actually the script will post only a few, exact count. There is probably some function or so which does it all... Don't you have any tip for like where should it be or what should I edit?

A friend of mine is running v6.01.17 and he wants to upgrade to v7. The only addon he has is a birthday infusion and is on one of the default themes. What do I need to do before the upgrade? This is the first for me so I'm a bit nervous, I don't want to lose anything.

Could I do a fresh install of v7 and put in the database backup from v6?
